From the Mists of Time

Here’s the free-standing follow-up to A Look into Darkness, and the second installation in a trilogy of first-person horror comics about paranormal investigation. If you haven’t read the first one yet, give it a gander.

Theory: the place actually isn’t haunted and Erna is a serial killer who likes to kill paranormal investigators!

No, I’m not being serious. XD Great start to the comic! Some really nice shots, and good atmosphere building.

Actual theory: medieval ritual site will have something to do with the paranormal activity.

Fantastic set-up, LOVE the spooky atmosphere you’ve got going.
Especially loved that misty transition when they’re exploring, very nice work

Gee, Sweden sure is a spooky place.

That being said, I really like the build up and how you’re able to give the world building the swedish touch, like with the classic red wooden house.

Really wonder how the tone of the comic will shift; will it lean more on realistic side or take a leap into the horror fiction? Eager to see what happens!

You really should bump the thread after editing in a new part, otherwise some people might not know there’s anything new here. So here… I bump it for you!

Everyone, George has posted more to the story! XD

Anyways; this is getting concerning… I too was highly sceptical of such a ritual working I must admit. The creature they saw looks similar to a version of the Wendigo (there are two different looks for Wendigos); but as this is not the US I doubt that’s what it is… hmmmmm.

As usual, brilliant shots and really nice lighting! But someone tell that woman to get her thumb off the laptop screen, honestly!

Really impressive stuff! I oughta take notes here: you know how to edit those pages together. Keep it up and keep going, you’ve got the ball rolling now.

Thank you and good call on the bumping!

As for the creature, it’s a bit of mish-mash. The luring of people down into water is from another swedish creature called Näcken, who lives by rivers and plays the fiddle so beautifully that people drown.

For the design I had just envisioned some medieval ghost with a classic moose skull for a head. A friend helped me with it and one of the sketches he made for it was even more Wendigo-like. Though I don’t know if Wendigos can be called by seiðr.

I had forgotten to put the thumb edit in! Now it should not look like she is touching the screen (not that she was… oh well)

Damn, son. The ghost didn’t want them in its swamp – or well it kinda did?

Anyway, the monologue is really great, pacing and all. The black fade out’s and in’s in the glimpse on the big G were very well put together, maintained the suspense nicely.

I do like the clear and clean editing on this, yet I wonder if the comic would gain from some effects. Like different kinds of blurs, distortion stuff on the supernatural shenanigans, etc. It might add a bit to the first-person perspective, in which I find myself forgetting at times.

Mm, I see what you mean. I had added some noise to every "spooky shot - of course it disappeared form the compression - though something more would probably go a long way. And good point on the blur, I hadn’t really considered that depth of field would play a vital role in selling the first-person POV.

The atmosphere was pretty interesting! Also, is part of that creature model a port from The Witcher 3? Cause it sure reminds me of that enemy from the game.

Nope! To fit in with the Scandinavian medieval theme, I went through a lot of models to get the look “right”. In the end, I went with a draugr from Skyrim along with a $15 moose skull model that I shoddily ported through Blender. Overlaid is the concept art my friend kindly drew for me.

Never played Witcher so I am curious about 5is enemy of which you speak.
