The coast as a trope
This comic lampoons a very specific type of comic setting/trope that was popular back in the day, namely the introspection-by-the-coast-introduction. Or as Mjolnir succintly put it in the Discord discussion:
All our greatest Gmod comic makers used the coast as an idealized place for introspective monologs at least at some point. Creators like Mjolnir, Eastman, Mythos, Pyren and, arguably the first example, BrashFink made their versions.
